Routes and stations
Railjet trains run from Austria to Germany, Italy, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Switzerland. New-generation Railjets run Munich–Innsbruck–Bolzano–Verona.
Nightjet links Vienna, Munich and Innsbruck with Rome, Venice, Hamburg, Berlin, Amsterdam, Brussels and Zurich. Routes can change because of engineering works, so check nightjet.com.
Tickets and fares
Nightjet fares change with demand. As a guide, seats start at about €29, a couchette or mini cabin at about €58, and a bed in a 2-bed sleeper at about €107.
A couchette berth includes bedding, water and a light breakfast. A sleeper bed adds a welcome drink, a snack and a breakfast you choose the night before. Comfort sleepers have their own toilet, and Comfort Plus adds a shower.
How to book
Book on nightjet.com, oebb.at or the ÖBB app, or at ÖBB ticket counters. Booking usually opens up to 6 months ahead, sometimes less.
A whole couchette compartment can be booked privately for up to 6 people travelling together, with up to 5 children under 14. Numbers are limited, so book early.
Tips for travellers
Couchette compartments are mixed, but women travelling alone can book a ladies-only compartment. This suits many Arab women travellers.
For a family, a private couchette compartment or a private sleeper gives full privacy. Booking 1 bed in a double sleeper means sharing with a stranger.
On Railjet, Economy has a family zone with a children's play area, and both Economy and First have quiet zones. There is an on-board restaurant.
Keep valuables with you at night, and keep a small bag with what you need for the night, as space is tight.
