Routes and stations
The Global Pass covers trains in 33 countries. One Country passes cover a single country.
Local and regional trains usually need no reservation. Most high-speed and night trains need one, for an extra fee.
Tickets and fares
Flexi passes give 4, 5, 7, 10 or 15 travel days within 1 or 2 months. Continuous passes give travel every day for 15 days, 22 days, or 1, 2 or 3 months. Prices change and sales are common, so check eurail.com.
Children aged 4 to 11 get a free Child Pass when travelling with an adult pass holder aged 18 or over. Each adult can bring up to 2 children; more children need a Youth Pass. Children under 4 travel free without a pass but may need to sit on a lap.
Travellers aged 12 to 27 get a Youth discount, and those aged 60 or over get a Senior discount.
How to book
Buy the pass on eurail.com. Activate it within 11 months of issue, online at checkout or at a European station.
Then book seat reservations for high-speed and night trains. On the French TGV, for example, pass reservations cost €10, rising to €20 when the cheaper ones sell out.
Tips for travellers
Add reservation costs to the pass price before you decide. On some routes, an early cheap ticket is cheaper than pass plus reservation.
Some low-cost trains do not accept the pass. In Spain, for example, OUIGO does not accept Eurail.
In countries like Germany and Switzerland, many trains need no reservation, so the pass is more flexible there.
For a family, the free Child Pass for children aged 4 to 11 can make the pass good value.
