Routes and stations
PKP Intercity connects all large Polish cities. The EIP Pendolino is the fastest and most comfortable train. It runs from the Tri-City (Gdańsk and Gdynia) and Warsaw to Kraków, Katowice, Wrocław and Szczecin.
In Warsaw, most long-distance trains use Warszawa Centralna in the city centre. Some use Warszawa Wschodnia or Zachodnia, so check the station on your ticket. In Kraków the main station is Kraków Główny.
International trains run from Warsaw to Berlin, Vienna and Prague, and from Kraków to Vienna.
Tickets and fares
There are four main train types. EIP is the premium Pendolino. EIC and IC are fast trains with modern or refurbished cars. TLK trains are slower and cheaper.
EIP tickets start at 29 PLN and rise as the train fills up. Warsaw to Kraków often costs from about 60 PLN. Prices are shown in Polish złoty.
A seat reservation is always required on EIP and is included in a normal ticket. Rail pass holders pay a reservation fee, 43 PLN for EIP if bought in Poland.
How to book
Book on intercity.pl and switch to English at the top. Type Polish city names, such as Warszawa and Kraków. Domestic tickets go on sale 30 days ahead.
You can print the ticket or show it on your phone. The PKP Intercity app also sells tickets.
Station ticket offices and machines sell tickets too, but queues can be long in summer.
Tips for travellers
EIP trains have a WARS bar car in the middle of the train and a power socket at every seat. There is a quiet zone if you want to rest.
First class has 45 seats per Pendolino, so book early on Fridays and Sundays.
Leo Express, a Czech private company, also runs a few Warsaw–Kraków trains. Its tickets are not valid on PKP Intercity.
