Routes and stations
The main line runs from Athens north to Thessaloniki, with stops such as Oinoi, Thiva, Levadia, Lianokladi, Palaiofarsalos, Larissa, Katerini and Platy. In Athens, trains use Larissa station, which is on Metro Line 2.
Since 15 September 2025 Hellenic Train has run a reduced timetable on the Athens line because of track works. In autumn 2026 there are two InterCity trains a day each way, taking about 5 hours 10 minutes.
Hellenic Train also runs the Athens suburban network (Proastiakos), including trains from Athens International Airport, as well as the Patras suburban line and regional lines.

Tips for travellers
Check the Important Updates page before you travel. Delays of 10 to 20 minutes are common, and works can change the timetable at short notice.
Wheelchair users on Athens–Thessaloniki trains should call customer service at least 24 hours ahead.
For a day trip from Athens Airport to the city centre, the suburban train is simple and avoids traffic.
