What happened to Megabus
Stagecoach launched Megabus in 2003 with very cheap fares. In 2022 its ticket business moved to Scottish Citylink.
In October 2024 Megabus announced that all routes wholly within England and Wales would end on 4 December 2024, citing low demand. Scottish and cross-border routes stayed at first.
In December 2025 the last two long-distance routes between Glasgow and London were withdrawn. Megabus is no longer a main option for travel inside England.
What still runs
Inside Scotland, former Megabus services now run under the Citylink brand.
The Falcon service between Bristol and Plymouth in south-west England continues, but without Megabus branding.
Routes change, so always check the timetable on the website before travelling.
How to book
The Megabus website now works as a booking portal for Citylink and Falcon tickets. For routes it no longer serves, it sends you to National Express.
For London to other English cities, book National Express or FlixBus directly.
Tips for travellers
Old blog posts and maps may still show Megabus routes that no longer exist. Trust only the current timetable.
If you have an old booking on a withdrawn route, the company said affected customers would be offered another service or a refund.
Check the luggage rules of the operator you actually travel with, since they differ between Citylink, National Express and FlixBus.
