Routes and stations
National Express runs medium and long-distance coaches across England, Scotland and Wales. Hubs include London, Birmingham, Manchester, Bristol, Leeds and Southampton, plus Heathrow and Stansted airports.
Airport services are a strong point. Coaches serve the terminals of all major UK airports, and some run 24 hours a day. This is useful for late arrivals from the Gulf or Egypt.
Tickets and fares
Fares start from about 4.90 GBP one way on some routes when booked early. Flexible tickets cost more but allow changes.
Coachcards give one-third off standard and fully flexible fares. There are cards for young people aged 16 to 26, seniors over 60 and disabled adults.
Free luggage: two medium suitcases (up to 70 x 30 x 45 cm) or one large case (up to 75 x 50 x 32 cm), each up to 20 kg, plus one soft hand bag up to 10 kg. You can add up to three extra bags on UK trips, cheaper online than at the station. Fees may change.
How to book
Book on the National Express website or app, by phone, or at coach station ticket offices. Online is usually cheapest.
Show the e-ticket on your phone to the driver. Seats are guaranteed on most services.
Tips for travellers
Hard-shell cabin suitcases and wheeled bags must go in the hold, at no extra cost. Pack medicines and documents in your soft hand bag.
Coaches have reclining seats, USB charging and free Wi-Fi on many services.
Leave extra time for London traffic, especially to and from Heathrow and Gatwick.
Folding pushchairs travel free in the hold, which helps families.
