How Megabus works now
Coach USA, the former owner, filed for bankruptcy in June 2024. In August 2024 Peter Pan Bus Lines took over Megabus routes between New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington DC, and Fullington Trailways took routes to State College and Pittsburgh. Some southern routes, such as those serving Dallas and Atlanta, were cut.
In February 2025 Megabus announced a partnership with Jefferson Lines, adding about 150 cities in 14 Midwest and western states. Trailways companies also sell trips through Megabus. In many cases the bus you board carries the partner's name.
Tickets and fares
Megabus is a budget brand. Prices rise as buses fill, so booking early is the best way to save. Each partner may have its own rules on luggage, changes and refunds, so read the conditions shown at booking.
Fares and routes change often. Always check the current schedule on megabus.com.
How to book
Book on us.megabus.com and keep the confirmation on your phone. The booking shows which company runs your trip and where it leaves from.
In New York, buses run under Peter Pan use the Port Authority Bus Terminal. In other cities, check the stop address carefully; some are kerbside stops.
Tips for travellers
Compare Megabus with Greyhound, FlixBus and Amtrak on the same day; the cheapest option changes by route and date.
Arrive 15 to 30 minutes early. Keep valuables and medicine with you, not in the luggage hold.
If a route you remember from before 2024 is missing, it may have been cut or moved to a partner company.
Last checked: October 2026. Fares and timetables change, so confirm on the official website before you travel.
