Tips for travellers

Leaving Oslo, sit on the left for the Hardangervidda views. Leaving Bergen, sit on the right.

In winter daylight is short. Take a morning or early afternoon train if you want to see the mountains.

Pack warm clothes even in summer if you plan to get off at Finse or Myrdal; it is high mountain country.

Last checked: October 2026. Fares and timetables change, so confirm on the official website before you travel.
