Routes and stations
Most TGV INOUI trains leave Paris Gare de Lyon for the south-east: Lyon, Marseille, Montpellier and Nice. Other lines serve the west and south-west, and some trains link Lille directly with Bordeaux, Nantes and Rennes without going into Paris.
Some services leave the high-speed line for normal track, for example between Marseille and Nice, so those sections are slower.
Tickets and fares
Prices change with demand and date, so book early for the best fares. Every ticket includes a reserved seat.
Rail pass holders must pay a reservation before boarding. A limited number cost €10, then €20 once those are sold.
How to book
Book on SNCF Connect (website or app). When booking 2nd class you can choose upper or lower deck and window or aisle. You cannot choose forward-facing seats.
When you add children aged 12 and under, SNCF Connect may offer a Family Carré: four seats around a table, if available.
Tips for travellers
The luggage rule is strict. Each person may take 2 bags up to 70 x 90 x 50 cm plus 1 hand bag up to 40 x 30 x 15 cm. A pushchair or folded scooter is allowed in addition. Every bag must have a name tag. You must be able to carry all your bags at once. Fines are €50 per extra item and €150 for a bag blocking the aisle.
Overhead racks in 2nd class are small. The lower deck and 1st class have more space for large suitcases.
On weekends and school holidays, part of 2nd class is a Family Space. There is also a nursery area in 2nd class and a changing table in the 1st class accessible toilet. There is no quiet coach.
The bar car on the upper deck sells hot meals, sandwiches, salads and drinks. Stock can run out on long trips.
