Routes and stations
M1 (red) runs east–west through Duomo and continues to Rho Fieramilano. M3 (yellow) links Centrale station with Duomo. M2 (green) serves Centrale, Cadorna and Porta Garibaldi. M5 (lilac) goes to San Siro stadium.
M4 (blue) opened fully in 2024 between Linate airport and San Cristoforo, with San Babila as its central interchange. Duomo is the main meeting point of M1 and M3.
Tickets and fares
A single urban ticket costs €2.20 and is valid for 90 minutes in zones Mi1–Mi3, with unlimited changes but only one metro entry. A 24-hour ticket costs €7.60 and a 3-day ticket €15.50, valid until 3:45 on the third day. A 10-trip carnet costs €19.50.
Paying with a contactless bank card, phone or watch is the simplest option. Tap in at the gate and again when you leave the metro. There is no extra fee.
From 1 January 2026 paper tickets are no longer sold or accepted. Visitors who prefer a card can buy the RicaricaMi card at station machines and newsstands and load tickets on it.
How to buy
Tap your contactless card at the gate, or buy and load a RicaricaMi card at machines in metro stations. Some M4 stations accept only card payment at the machines.
Malpensa Express tickets are sold by Trenord at airport stations, in the Trenord app and online. They are not valid as ATM tickets.
Tips for travellers
From Malpensa, the Malpensa Express runs to Cadorna in about 40 minutes and to Centrale in about 55 minutes. The adult fare rose to €15 in August 2025; children up to 13 pay less.
From Linate, take M4 straight to San Babila in about 12 minutes on a normal urban ticket. This is much cheaper than a taxi.
If your ticket runs out while you are in the metro, you may need to buy an exit ticket. Tap with the same card each time so the system can calculate your fare correctly.
